And they’re off. Today, Friday, August 24, 2007, marks the official start of the 2007 high school football season. And WRAL-TV kicks off the 27th season of Football Friday.
The WRAL-TV team covers 27 or 28 area games each week with a strong line-up of camera crews and reporters and assistants. WRAL-TV Sport Anchor Tom Suiter and Sports Director Bob Holliday coach the team and play leading roles in the broadcast itself. Plans for the next Football Friday show begin immediately after the previous show wraps.
Football Friday is an intricate web of covering games and getting tape back to the station by air time. Crews generally cover two games each to make sure WRAL viewers get to see as much football as possible during the 30 minute show.
“And I will tell you this, those that take the pictures for Football Friday are the best,” said Suiter. “It is their video that makes the show. And what’s so neat is, nobody makes them work on this show. They ask to do it. They think its fun. I am very grateful to them all.”
Tune in to WRAL-TV on Friday nights at 11:35pm starting tonight. And visit the Football Friday section on WRAL.com.
“We take Football Friday very seriously,” said Suiter. “I’ve told many people it’s more to us that just a high school football show. It’s a labor of love.”
