99.9 The Fan’s Carolina Hurricanes Coverage Gets Boost Glen Wesley, John Forslund and Mark Roberts to provide hockey analysis on new FM sports radio station
|
Triangle sports fans will have the opportunity to learn more about the Carolina Hurricanes this season. The new 99.9 FM The Fan announced its lineup of hockey analysts who will broadcast on the Triangle’s new sports radio station in HD stereo.
Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Glen Wesley, hockey analyst John Forslund and broadcast personality Mark Roberts will provide hockey analysis during this hockey season on the new FM sports radio station.
“We are thrilled to have Glen Wesley join our team of star analysts,” said Dave Shore, 99.9 FM The Fan program director. “You will be able to get insight into the Carolina Hurricanes hockey season that you won’t find anywhere else.”
Glen Wesley is an assistant captain and defenseman on the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes. He has played 19 seasons in more than 1,300 career NHL games. Wesley won his first Stanley Cup in 2006 with the Carolina Hurricanes, ending one of the longest streaks for active players who had not yet won a Stanley Cup. Wesley lives in Raleigh with his wife and three children.
John Forslund is a television play-by-play announcer for the Carolina Hurricanes. John enters his ninth season as the Hurricanes’ television play-by-play announcer and his 13th with the club. In addition to his hockey work, Forslund has also covered Atlantic Coast Conference and Southern Conference basketball. In 2003, Forslund won Telly awards for “Forslund Focus,” part of the Hurricanes’ in-game presentation, and “Raisin’ Canes,” the home video celebrating the Hurricanes’ 2002 playoff run.
Mark Roberts may be best known in the Triangle for his entertaining traffic broadcasts on WRAL-TV. He joined the television station in 1990 and has won several Associated Press awards and was honored by the Radio-Television News Director Association. What might be less known is that Mark also plays center for an adult-league ice hockey team in Raleigh’s Iceplex league and is a three-time scoring champ.
The new 99.9 FM The Fan, all sports all the time in FM stereo and digital HD will debut in October. It is the Triangle’s first FM sports radio station and home to the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes. 99.9 FM The Fan also brings the Westwood One Sunday NFL doubleheader and College Football doubleheaders on Saturday.
99.9 The Fan is part of Capitol Broadcasting Company’s sports division and is bolstered by WRAL television, radio and online sports news coverage. CBC’s sports division also includes the Durham Bulls baseball team and Wolfpack Sports Marketing.
