Capitol Broadcasting Company participated in the Triangle Heart Walk for the first time in 2007, and now has been awarded for the effort. CBC won the Rookie of the Year Award, given to the company who raised the most money in their first-ever participation at the Walk.
CBC received the honor at a ceremony & reception on Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at the Sheraton Imperial in RTP. Corporate HR Benefits Administrator Van Williams & Corporate VP of Community Relations Paul Pope accepted the award on behalf of CBC’s Heart Walk Teams.
CBC’s teams raised $20,423 in total, contributing to a record-breaking year for the Start! Triangle Heart Walk. In total, participants raised $818,000 for the 2007 event, ranking with the top Heart Walks in the nation and increasing the Triangle total by $150,000 over the 2006 walk. It was by far the best Triangle Heart Walk event to date.
CBC was among 76 companies to help contribute to the historic total, and walked among the 10,000 participants on walk day in October.
“It was a phenomenal experience in many ways,” said Dr. Victor Zhau, Chairman of the 2007 Start! Triangle Heart Walk. “People do it for many different reasons. The energy, the commitment, I saw that day was truly touching.”
“We are completely overwhelmed by the response of our amazing team captains and the walkers they recruited,” said CBC Heart Walk Co-Chair Andrea Osborne. “CBC’ers, their families and friends showed that they truly have heart in this endeavor.”
