DBAP to Stage 2nd Annual “Project Homeless Connect” |
On September 25, 2008, The Durham Ten Year Plan to end Homelessness and the Durham Bulls Athletic Park will stage the second annual “PROJECT HOMELESS CONNECT”.
A one day, one stop, on site event designed to link homeless people with a broad range of services needed to help them transition into housing and more stable living conditions. Durham Bulls Vice President, George Habel stated “This is a first for us. We know how to fill the seats, but this turns the ball park into a giant Triage Center for one day”.
The event starts at 10:00am with an opening celebration welcoming everyone to the park, followed by remarks from Key Project Sponsors; City of Durham, Durham County, and the Triangle United Way. After the opening event attendees will be matched with volunteers to begin the intake process. At 12:00 noon lunch will be provided to all, generously provided by the Durham Bulls & CenterPlate, the team’s food service company. After lunch, services continue until 4:00pm.
“The Durham Bulls Athletic Park is here for the community,”
Habel stated, “and this is an opportunity for us to help people who don’t attend our games.”
The Durham Bulls wish to thank the following companies and organizations for their assistance with the meal:
- House of Raeford
- Sysco
- Pepsi
- Interfaith Food Shuttle
- Durham Rescue Mission
