The Great American Tobacco Duck Race is scheduled for Saturday, May 16th, 2009 on the banks of the Old Bull River at the American Tobacco Campus in Durham. This very important fundraising event benefiting the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle will attract the financial support of thousands of individuals and hundreds of area companies.
The annual event works like this – individuals and companies “purchase” rubber ducks in any increment, even just one duck. At the height of the Duck Race – which includes the music of Frankie Faucet and the Drips, door prizes, snacks, contests for the kids, and just a few brief speeches – hundreds of ducks will be simultaneously released to float swiftly down the Old Bull River.
There will be prizes for winners of the Duck Race, at both the individual and the corporate level, including airline tickets. Prizes will be awarded for First, Second, Third and Last place. In addition, prior to the race there is also a Best Decorated Duck Contest!
The biggest winners, of course, will be the thousands of working poor families, children, and seniors who confront hunger every day in the Triangle area. The Duck Race will help raise the funds necessary for the Food Shuttle to continue serving as our area’s #1 provider of nutritious, fresh food to children, seniors, and working families.
Levels of Support for the May 16th Great American Duck Race:
- Individual Duckling – $10
- Nest of 5 Ducklings – $40
- Corporate Drake – $100
- Corporate Flock of 6 – $500
- Corporate Flotilla of 10 – $750
