On Friday, December 9, 2011, WRAL-TV’s Studio A will become a hub of warm activity. The 23nd Annual Coats for the Children Telethon takes to the airwaves at 6am.
Volunteers will work the phone bank until 8pm, while WRAL-TV personalities appeal for pledges during the day’s newscasts and a 7pm special broadcast. CBC makes the effort each year to provide winter coats for children in need in the Triangle.

The morning, noon and evening newscasts will be peppered with cut-ins to the phone bank to in WRAL-TV’s Studio A. Two one-hour specials, at 1pm and 7pm, will include extended looks into the need in the Triangle.
Donors will be eligible for thank-you prizes throughout the day, based on the time of their call and pledge amount. Click for a complete list, including an autographed guitar from American Idol Scotty McCreery.
Donate gently-used winter coats, hats, gloves and scarves. A new toy to make a child’s holiday brighter can also be donated. WRAL is also asking the public to donate other winter clothing items, including gently-used gloves and hats, and new underwear and socks to completely outfit a child for the winter months. Any size coat will be accepted.
