News Over Wireless Now In New Office Location
CBC New Media Group’s News Over Wireless now works in offices on Hargett Street near downtown Raleigh.
FOX 50 employees aren’t the only ones making a move in 2012. CBC New Media Group’s News Over Wireless recently moved off CBC’s Western Boulevard campus into new offices.
The 23 employees had previously been scattered over three different floors at WRAL-TV.
“We’d have a space and outgrow it,” said N.O.W. General Manager Sam Matheny. “Steve Hammel (WRAL-TV Vice President & General Manager) and Pete Sockett (WRAL-TV Chief Engineer) were wonderful to work with.”
That growth is good news for the CBC division. N.O.W. grew 147% traffic-wise last year in terms of page views, added 15 affiliates and increased 113% in terms of video impressions.

WRAL.com is one of N.O.W.’s many clients. Matheny & his staff work with over 300 TV and radio stations and newspapers getting their content on mobile phones.
The move took place in two phases, the first in January and the second on February 17th. N.O.W. staffers now work in a 6,000-square-foot converted warehouse space at 819 West Hargett Street on the edge of downtown Raleigh.
The offices are only about 5 minutes from WRAL-TV. In fact, location was an important part of the choice. Matheny surveyed all his employees before looking for a new space, asking what features would be most important to them. Commute time was high on everyone’s list.
He actually Google-mapped everyone’s home and the different offices he was considering.
“Everybody enjoys being together,” said Matheny. “We are now much more collaborative in a sense, having conference room space and an open environment.”

The new space includes skylights and windows for good light. Matheny says the place has the same feel as American Tobacco, with the exposed beams and wooden rafters.
N.O.W. is working on the finishing touches of their space and settling in. Only half the space was furnished when they rented, so HVAC and furnishings had to be added to the other half of the building.
