Ducks, Bulls, and Fun for the Whole Family
The FOX 50 Family Fest returns to the American Tobacco campus October 7, 2012, for the first time on a Sunday. The free family-friendly event which drew over 5,000 to the lawn at American Tobacco last year will take place from 1-5pm. FOX 50 Family Fest will also again include the Great American Tobacco Duck Race, supporting three local charities.
Family Fun
Noah’s Landing, a favorite each year returns to delight the crowd with an expanded live animal showcase, including “Sid” the Hairy Armadillo, and “Ramsey” the Fennec Fox. The YMCA will keep things moving with field games and family activities. There will be special appearances by some of your favorite mascots – Ronald McDonald, Wool E. Bull, Lucky E. Duck, Stormy and more. Families will enjoy chatting with vendors and trying all sorts of activities. There will be prize drawings throughout the day!
Let’s Get Quacking
The Great American Tobacco Duck Race will take over the Ol’ Bull River for the sixth year, benefiting three non-profits. WRAL-TV’s Brain Game host Mark Roberts returns to judge the Duck Decorating contest and emcee the Duck Race.
In the highlight of this year’s FOX 50 Family Fest, thousands of people will line the banks of the Ol’ Bull River to find out who will win prizes for the swiftest ducks. The Duck activities get underway at 330pm with a Duck Decorating Contest, followed by the Duck Race at 4pm and concludes at 5pm with an awards ceremony.
Proceeds from this year’s Duck Race benefit Explorer Post 50, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle and Durham Literacy Center. Individual and Corporate Ducks can be purchased directly from each non-profit or online at familyfest.fox50.com. The Great American Tobacco Duck Race has generated over $130,000 collectively for area non-profits.
