And the film industry in Wilmington NC rolls on ……….
On Monday June 24, 2013, CBS will premiere a new show named “Under the Dome”. Based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King, “Under the Dome” tells the story of a small town in Maine that is suddenly cut off from the rest of the world by a gigantic invisible force field that surrounds the town. The residents that are stuck under the dome need to not only survive the deteriorating conditions, but they must find the answers to what the dome is, where it came from and whether or not they can make it go away.
This new show is not only a hit with Wilmington residents because of its increasingly popular storyline, but more so because it will be filmed and produced in Wilmington itself.
Executive-produced by Steven Spielberg and Stephen King, “Under the Dome” is scheduled to begin filming in Wilmington in February. The production opened offices at EUE/Screen Gems Studios on Monday January 14, 2013.
This new series isn’t the only post-apocalyptic themed show filming in the Port City though. The NBC series “Revolution” has been filming in and around the Wilmington area since July 2012. Stephen King adaptations aren’t a stranger to this area either; “Firestarter”, “Cat’s Eye” and “Silver Bullet” were also filmed here.
Originally planned to air on Showtime (a CBS subsidiary) as a miniseries, “Under the Dome” will now air as a 13 episode series on CBS instead.
Expect the first teaser trailers and promos of the series to air during CBS’s coverage of the Super Bowl on Sunday February 3, 2013.
