DBAP Draws Largest College Baseball Crowd in State History North Carolina and NC State Battle in Front of 11,392 Fans at Durham Bulls Athletic Park |
With a berth in the ACC Baseball Championship Game on the line, North Carolina and NC State clashed in front of a paid attendance of 11,392 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park Saturday night, May 25, 2013, the largest crowd ever to watch a college baseball game in the state. The mark ranks second on the DBAP’s all-time attendance list, as the Durham Bulls and Gwinnett Braves played in front of 11,674 on July 4, 2010.
The previous collegiate baseball attendance record was set at the 2012 ACC Baseball Championship when the same two teams faced each other in the final at Greensboro’s NewBridge Bank Park. 10,222 fans saw the Heels edge the Wolfpack 4-0 in that game.
North Carolina ended up beating NC State in a staggering 18 innings and then went on to clinch the title against the Hokies of Virginia Tech on Sunday.
The final game between UNC and Virginia Tech also broke a record, ranking as the largest crowd for an ACC Baseball Championship Game with 8,697 in attendance.
