WRAL-TV Chief Meteorologist Greg Fishel

WRAL Chief Meteorologist Greg Fishel has been elected as a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society – one of the organization’s highest honors.
Fellowship in the AMS is given to fewer than two-tenths of 1 percent of all AMS members every year, according to WRAL meteorologist/executive producer Nate Johnson.

The honor recognizes “outstanding contributions to the atmospheric or related … sciences or their applications during a substantial period of years,” according to AMS.

“This is a testament to the kind of scientific leadership Greg exhibits both in our weather center and in the nationwide community of meteorologists and weather enthusiasts,” Johnson said.

Fishel has been a meteorologist at WRAL for more than 30 years and was the first certified broadcast meteorologist in the U.S. He received his Bachelor of Science in meteorology in 1979 from Pennsylvania State University.
