WRAL-TV Anchors flip the switch on the 300-foot tower for the holidays during the 6pm newscast on Monday, December 2nd.
The WRAL-TV tower became a beacon of holiday spirit once again during the evening newscast on Monday, December 2, 2013. WRAL anchors flipped the switch to turn on the lights on the 300-foot tower at the station’s Western Blvd headquarters.
The tradition started in 1959 with Capitol Broadcasting Co. founder A.J. Fletcher reading “A Christmas Carol” before the tower was lit. The lighting grew to include musical performances and aerial video from Sky 5.
This year, WRAL-TV anchor David Crabtree continued the tradition by reading “Twas the Night Before Christmas” for a group of children.
The Methodist University Chorale provided festive holiday tunes.
