More than one local high school is singing “Happy” along with Pharrell Williams these days. Why? Last week FOX 50 announced the three big winners of their 2014 Lip Dub Project. The Grand Prize Winner? Gray’s Creek High School took home $10,000, for their lip dub of the catchy, happy hit.
In fact, “Happy” was by far the most popular song among the 31 entries. However, South View High School “roared” with Katy Perry’s hit to take 2nd Runner Up and $5,000 for their school. “Roar” perfectly tied in with their school mascot. Go Tigers!
And Massey Classical High School went with the king of pop, winning Second Runner Up and $2,500, with their lip dub to Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror.”
The three schools rose to the top as over 2.3 million votes were cast, a Lip Dub Project record!
For the first time this year, FOX 50 created an app by which viewers could see the videos and vote for their favorites. The inaugural app was downloaded over 5,700 times.
In true high school form, FOX 50 also determined a list of superlatives for the entrants this year. The FOX 50 team compiled a list of “best of” categories and before voting started, nominated videos for the various categories and then debated until they’d determined the superlative winners.
FOX 50’s Lip Dub 2014 is the fourth edition of the high school contest. Presented by Goodwill Community Foundation and sponsored by Character Matters, the “FOX 50 Lip Dub Project” gives local high school students the chance to show off their creativity. Winners are determined via online votes.
