The Komen Race for the Cure is right around the corner, and Team WRAL is gearing up to help raise funds and awareness to help fight breast cancer. The 2014 event will take place on Saturday, June 14th at Meredith College in Raleigh.
WRAL-TV Meteorologist Mike Maze has a special reason for participating:
‘‘Like so many people out there, my life has been impacted by breast cancer. My mother was the first in the family to be diagnosed in 2004. She quickly had a left mastectomy to remove all the cancer. Fortunately, it had not spread to the surrounding lymph nodes. She continues to be cancer free 10 years later. My mother’s mother, late in life, developed breast cancer, but due to her advanced age of 96 yrs, the doctors felt it was best not to have her undergo any treatment. She passed away two years ago at age 98! Cancer is such an insidious disease, affecting so many people from all walks of life. Nobody is immune to its touch. I’m proud to take part in the Komen Triangle Race for the Cure on June 14th and do my part to help those who can, find a treatment for so many women affected by breast cancer. Please support Gerald, Jackie, me and everyone else on Team WRAL by making a donation, as we put our energy in fighting and Race for the Cure!’’
WRAL-TV is working hard to expand our support for the Komen Race for the Cure with social media this year. Team WRAL is working on something really big for race day. You can be a part of it by using #KomenTri on all your social media posts, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Vine.
