Corp’s Sam Matheny speaks at the ATSC Broadcast Television Conference in Washington, DC in May 2014.

Corp Vice President of Policy & Innovation Sam Matheny recently attended ATSC Broadcast Television Conference in Washington, DC, representing Capitol Broadcasting, talking about CBC’s past transition from analog to digital and then looking towards the future.  He weighed in on the latest broadcasting transition slated to take place, implementation of ATSC 3.0 as the new broadcasting standard.

Phil Kurz penned “Net-Gen Transition Demanding Answers” featuring comments from Matheny as a Tech Spotlight feature on TVNewsCheck.  Posted on May 15, 2014, the article says Matheny “has several ‘big buckets’ of issues that he says need to be studied and resolved before a successful ATSC 3.0 transition can take place. Among them are determining the impact of the transition on the audience, the possibility for interference, the duration of the transition, the availability of spectrum and the impact of the transition on direct-to-home satellite, cable TV and telco TV partners.”

Matheny also penned a related blog post in his CBC View blog.  In “Digital Transitions – Keeping The Momentum” he outlines how CBC handled the big transition from analog to digital and some thoughts about the next transition facing broadcasters.
