The high school football season has arrived and before long the stadium lights will be on for the 2014 edition of Friday night lights.
On Monday, July 28, HighSchoolOT.com hosted area high school football coaches and players in Studio A at WRAL-TV in Raleigh for an annual kickoff event. Nearly 75 coaches and players from across the WRAL-TV viewing area attended the event.
The event featured speakers from television, radio, and new media, along with guest speaker Steve Logan. Moe’s provided everyone lunch at the event.
WRAL-TV’s Tom Suiter spoke to attendees about the 34th season of “Football Friday,” which begins on Friday, August 22 at 11:35 p.m. on WRAL-TV. Suiter has hosted the show for all 34 seasons. The 30-minute show includes highlights from 26-29 games each week through the end of the season.
James Alverson from 99.9 FM The Fan ESPN Radio and AM 620 The Buzz spoke to attendees about the upcoming season on the radio. Between The Fan and The Buzz, Alverson will call a game of the week each week in the Triangle area. The game of the week will air live on the radio and online, and it will be archived online for on-demand listening.
Alverson also hosts a Saturday morning show each week at 9 a.m. on The Fan. The show wraps up the previous night’s games, identifies top players from the week, and includes analysis and interviews with coaches.
HighSchoolOT.com Senior Editor Nick Stevens spoke to the crowd about coverage plans from a web perspective this season. Each Friday night, fans can check the live scoreboard on HighSchoolOT.com and on the free iPhone and Android applications, as well as get postgame coverage from the HighSchoolOT.com staff. Throughout the week there will be special web-only shows, feature stories, opinion columns, and more.
Steve Logan, host of The Logan Zone, spoke to the coaches and players on Monday as well, explaining to them what it means to be ready to play. According to Logan, if you’re ready to play, you’re ready to win the game on the last play of the game.
After the speakers were done and lunch was eaten, coaches and players split up and every single attendee was interviewed on camera. These interviews were used during HighSchoolOT.com’s 24 Hours of High School Football on Friday, August 1.
HighSchoolOT.com’s preseason events are not done. On Saturday, August 16, HighSchoolOT.com will host the annual HighSchoolOT.com Jamboree at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh. The event features 16 of the area’s top teams, including the top running back in the nation. Games start at 12 p.m. and run through 10 p.m. Admission is $5.
The high school football season begins on August 22 and runs through mid-December.
