Spring Cleaning at Microspace, Tower Maintenance Complete

Microspace tower

Crews work to complete maintenance on the Microspace tower on Wednesday, April 13, 2016.

300 feet above Microspace’s Highwoods Blvd location, a tower holds multiple microwave antennas used for signal transmissions across the Triangle.

One of these antenna provides the microwave link to/from Microspace Highwoods to Microspace Auburn facilities.  The 10-foot cover over this antenna was disintegrated, by the storm system which spawned tornadoes in the area on February 24th.  Now that spring has sprung, a new replacement cover was installed, requiring a crane, a tower crew and a full day of work to install.

We also have a microwave link that carries video and audio between Highwoods and the TV campus at Western Blvd.  That microwave antenna cover was also damaged in the storm. So, while the crews were here, a new cover was installed on that antenna too.

All of this work helps Microspace and our customer’s ability to reach the satellites.  And it also helps the CBC Radio Group and the CBC TV stations here in Raleigh and the Wilmington markets to stay on-the-air.

Thanks to MCC’s Carla Torrence for this capcom story & for these capcom photos.
