Just two days after his birthday, the newly-8-year-old Mac Hogstrom had a dream came true as he rode in a helicopter for the first time. Mac is no run-of-the-mill kid; he’s undergone constant medical treatment in his young life for liver issues. And the helicopter was no ordinary chopper; Mac flew in SKY 5!
Capitol Broadcasting employees came out en masse to wave to Mac as he took his SKY 5 ride over the WRAL-TV studios. Mac took off from the SKY 5 hangar at the RDU airport and then got a tour of Raleigh, including WRAL, from the air. Last week Mac stopped by the station with his parents and Make-A-Wish staffers for a tour of WRAL-TV with WRAL-TV Anchor Debra Morgan.
After his big ride, several WRAL-TV staffers greeted Mac at the hangar with a birthday party, complete with cake and gifts.
Make-A-Wish Eastern North Carolina worked with WRAL-TV to make the magic happen for Mac. Since its founding in 1986, the Make-A-Wish Eastern North Carolina chapter has granted more than 3,300 wishes to children ages 2 ½ to 18. The local branch serves 49 North Carolina counties, stretching from Alamance and Orange counties to the coast.
