WRAL anchor David Crabtree was named Best News Anchor during the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters luncheon at American Tobacco Campus Thursday afternoon, June 14, 2018, in Durham.

Crabtree’s entry featured his coverage of a fire in downtown Raleigh, the opening of the Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral in Raleigh and last year’s solar eclipse.

WRAL’s radio station MIX 101.5 also won the Radio Station of the Year award for large markets.

Crabtree, who also served as the emcee at the event, has been WRAL’s lead news male anchor since 1994 and is expected to retire at the end of this year.
