The Sports Shop duo Reese and K-Mac spent the morning of Wednesday, September 19, 2018, broadcasting live from a Durham school to support educators with the sophomore year of an event the radio guys created to help. Erroll Reese and Kevin “K-Mac” McClendon brought back their Backpack For Teachers with a donation drive at Neal Middle School.
“The 2nd annual Backpack For Teachers was a tremendous success,” said Reese. “60 Back Packs were given to Teachers filled with supplies. It’s extremely gratifying to see the community come together to provide support for teachers.”
The pair selected Neal Middle School because the school exceeded their growth from the 2017-2018 school year, moving them off of the list of low-performing schools. Reese and K-Mac wanted to reward and celebrate their accomplishments.
“The students’ hard work, the teachers’ dedication, the parents’ support, and the community’s involvement all contributed to the goal obtained,” said Reese. “There is much more work to be done, however, we wanted to recognize small and large victories that would contribute and enhance the overall student. We feel the teachers play a vital role in that success.”
Reese and K-Mac honored the teachers during the 3-hour live morning broadcast, which ran from 6-9am, highlighting their dedication and determination.
“Teachers spend more time with our students than we spend during the day,” Reese explained. “Often, they spend their own dollars trying to ensure the best supplies are available for them to do their jobs. The Sports Shop recognize the need to support teachers so they can be the best they can be and provide the appropriate level of instruction without having to worry about having adequate supplies.”
The Sports Shop team rallied friends and corporate partners to make the day a success for Neal Middle School.
“None of this could have happened without support from Capitol Broadcasting, The Banks Foundation, Under Armour, Coastal Credit Union, Spoke Hub, Virgin Cigars and The Sports Shop Radio Show,” concluded Reese.
Congratulations to Neal Middle School for their accomplishments in 2017-2018! And good luck for another year of growth during the 2018-2019 school year with help from the supplies collected by The Sports Shop!
