Despite a last-minute schedule change due to the heat and new regulations, the HighSchoolOT Jamboree attracted 2,000 attendees. On Saturday, August 17, 2019, fans from across the Triangle trekked to Wake Forest High School to see six high school scrimmage games.
Midway activities, including live music, games, food and more, began at 1pm as scheduled, but the game start time was pushed back to 5:30pm. Representatives from the Durham Bulls, along with Wool E. Bull, and 99.9 The Fan also came to greet fans for part of the event.
“Nick and his team did a fantastic job adapting to the weather conditions, including rescheduling games after we had to delay the start time from 1 until 5:30,” said NMG Marketing Director Laura Worthington of HSOT Senior Editor Nick Stevens and the HSOT staff. “They had a few teams drop out due to the heat and schedule changes, so they even had to change some of the matchups. They communicated updates through push alerts from the HighSchoolOT app, a story on the site and social media.”
In addition, all the scrimmages were live streamed on the HighSchoolOT app and on HighSchoolOT.com.
“Ominous storm clouds threatened to be the final nail in the coffin for the Jamboree–even seeing a bolt of lightning or hearing thunder would have caused further game delays,” explained Worthington. “Miraculously, but in alignment with our personal forecast from WRAL-TV Meteorologist Kat Campbell, it never rained a drop!”
