Durham SmART Adds Vibrant Crosswalk Art on American Tobacco Campus

American Tobacco crosswalk art

Local artist Mary Carter Taub designed this vibrant crosswalk design on Blackwell Street on the American Tobacco Campus as part of the Durham SmART Vision Plan. The installation took place during the week of November 18, 2019.

American Tobacco has a “snappy” new crosswalk.  Three vibrant Art-Deco inspired pedestrian crosswalk designs were installed in downtown Durham during the week of November 18, including on Blackwell Street at American Tobacco.  The Durham SmART Vision Plan sponsored the project with the mission of “connecting the cultural hubs/districts in downtown Durham through creative placemaking.”

Local artist Mary Carter Taub designed the Pedestrian Crosswalk installations.  There are three total:  connecting the American Tobacco Campus at Blackwell/Vivian Street, the Durham Armory to Marriott/Convention Center on Foster Street, and the Durham Central Park at the Farmers’ Market crossing on Foster Street.

Come down to American Tobacco and check out the bright new design!
