MIX 101.5’s 25th Annual Radiothon for Duke Children’s Hospital raised $604,606.84 during the two-day live broadcast from the lobby of the hospital on Tuesday, December 17, and Wednesday, December 18, 2019.
The MIX 101.5 Radiothon for Duke Children’s Hospital marked the 25th anniversary in a big way, raising $604,606.84! MIX staffers unveiled the total at the end of the two-day event, broadcasting live from the lobby of Duke Children’s hospital on Tuesday, December 17, and Wednesday, December 18, 2019.
“It was incredible to be a part of something so much bigger than all of us for 2 consecutive days,” said WRAL-FM Digital Assets Coordinator Kristen Kokkelenberg, “it truly was the most rewarding and perspective shifting thing I could ever partake in.
Kokkelenberg participated in her first MIX Radiothon this year and was blown away by the experience.
“There are just so many emotions happening inside those walls of Duke Children’s and everyone effortlessly captured that through the power of radio,” Kokkelenberg continued. “It is an emotional roller coaster, exhausting, and yet the best thing I have ever had the privilege to be a part of.”
Special guests including current and former patients and their families stopped by to share stories, along with Duke staffers and Men’s Basketball Coach Mike Krzyzewski. A few blasts from the MIX 101.5 past stopped by as well, including retirees Bill Jordan & Vanna Fox. Jordan and Fox have participated in many Radiothons over the years.

“This year was the 25th anniversary of Radiothon which made it all the more special that Bill Jordan and Vanna Fox joined us,” said WRAL-FM’s Bryan Lord of Two Men & A Mom. “Together they’ve raised so much money for that incredible place. And this year they helped raise even more.”
The final dollar amount was unveiled at the end of the second day.
“When Kyle and Dr. Reed dropped the white board covering the giant check, it was revealed that we’d raised over $600,000 for Duke Children’s in two days! Incredible,” said Lord. “It took courageous patients and their brave families and the compassion of our listeners to accomplish so much.”
The MIX crew is proud of work they do for Radiothon each year.
“It is a team out there, a family, all coming together because these kids deserve life, they deserve to be kids, they deserve so much more than the hand they were dealt and yet they are the strongest people I have ever met,” said Kokkelenberg. “Being a member of the team for the 25th Anniversary of the MIX 101.5 Radiothon for Duke Children’s was magical to say the least.”
