John Conway has been promoted from General Manager of New Media to Vice President of WRAL Digital at Capitol Broadcasting. Corp President & COO Jimmy Goodmon made the announcement to employees on Friday, February 28, 2020.
The change in title for Conway coincides with the rebranding of his division on January 1st from CBC New Media Group to WRAL Digital. The division is responsible for a wide-range of digital products, services and marketing solutions. Sales, fulfillment, technology, marketing, product and analytics functions report up to John. WRAL Digital also works hand-in-hand with the multi-platform content team, which is now part of the WRAL newsroom.
In his 20th year of employment with CBC, Conway has held a variety of roles in the company. He joined WRAL-TV as the first managing editor for the web, helping launch the site first known as WRAL Online in 1996. In 2005, CBC New Media was created as the company’s digital division, and Conway held roles such as Content Director, Product Manager, Creative Services Director and General Manager.
“Under John’s leadership, we have built and operated a website that not only beats the local competition, it remains the most visited local media site in the state and one of the most popular TV websites in the nation,” said Goodmon.
Conway has also helped create long-lasting brands and products such as HighSchoolOT, WRALSportsFan, WRAL TechWire, Out & About, GoAskMom and SmartShopper.
“I am so proud of what teams across my two decades here have been able to create and accomplish,” said Conway. “From launching one of the first TV station websites to launching the first station phone app to rolling out OTT apps, CBC has been at the forefront of technology and digital products, serving the WRAL audience wherever they might be.”
He continued, “Then you couple that with the tremendous growth in our advertising and marketing services and the birth of WRAL Digital Solutions, and it’s been truly rewarding work. I am so fortunate to work for a company that has given me so many opportunities to experiment and innovate.”
Conway will now lead the newly branded WRAL Digital Team into continued digital high quality and growth.
“I am impressed by the WRAL Digital team. They are bold and creative and striving for excellence. They make me excited about what lies ahead.”
