The Holly Springs Salamanders wrapped the team’s 2021 season on Sunday, August 1, 2021 at Ting Stadium, chalking up a big list of accomplishments. To start, 2021 saw the Salamanders first winning season in franchise history, with the Coastal Plain League team going 24-20 overall!
“It was an incredible season despite starting the season with limited capacity,” said Salamanders General Manager Chip Hutchinson.
The 2021 season ended with 31,407 in paid attendance, an increase of over 3,000 fans over 2019. The Salamanders Front Office was up 11% in Turnstile (people at the games), up 42% in Net Concessions, up 37% in Retail Sales and up 19% in Ticket Sales Revenue.
The Salamanders introduced a new “affiliate” team concept called the South Wake Shakes, a team made up mostly of local players.
“It was a great opportunity for these local players and a fun way to introduce new games to Ting Stadium,” said Hutchinson. “Nearly all of the Shakes’ games included a HR Derby after the game which was exciting (and new) for the Fans!”
In another first, the team had its first two Salamanders’ players, Andy Wantz (Angles) and Brian Miller (Marlins), make their MLB debuts this season.
Outside of the games, the Manders also had two very successful Baseball Camps for the first time in several years.
“The Salamanders continue to be a large part of the Holly Springs community and have a great relationship with the Holly Springs Chamber and the Small Business Community throughout Wake County,” said Hutchinson.
Thanks to all of the Salamanders fans, sponsors, players, coaches, host families and staff for a terrific 2021! See you next season!
