WRAL-TV Sports Anchor Kacy Hintz made history last Friday night. She became the first woman to ever anchor Football Friday, hosting the full episode on September 9, 2022. Up until now only former WRAL-TV Sports Anchors Tom Suiter, Jeff Gravley and current WRAL-TV Sports Anchor Chris Lea have hosted.
Due to a last-minute shuffle, Hintz got word on Thursday that she would be hosting, as well as anchoring sports for the 10 and 11pm newscasts.
“With less than 24 hours to prepare, she learned rosters, figured out conferences, etc. to put on an outstanding show,” said WRAL-TV New Producer Kelly Riner.
Tackling the ultimate agility drill, Hintz proved herself more than worth of the assignment.
“Hosting a show like Football Friday is no easy task and doing it on a few days’ notice without any real practice is an even harder one, but Kacy crushed it,” said HighSchoolOT.com Senior Editor Nick Stevens. “The amount of preparation she did really showed as she came across credible and knowledgeable to the niche audience that is high school football.”
Hintz knew she was making history but did not let that fact rattle her.
“It got rave reviews from the control room and from viewers,” said Riner. “She took a challenging situation and ran with it! And she 100 percent owned that show! She added a lot of sound and some different elements to make it her own.”
Riner concluded, “It was a pleasure for me to produce it, to help show her the ropes and then watch her shine! We still put on one of the best shows we’ve had!”
Football Friday and HighSchoolOT Live continue with the 2022 high school football season tonight.
