Lauren DesArmo NPPA Quarterly Clip Contest

WRAL News Photogs Place in NPPA Quarterly Clip Contest

Two WRAL-TV News Photographers recently placed in the National Press Photographers Association’s Quarterly Clip Contest. Lauren DesArmo and Sean Braswell each received honors for their excellence in photojournalism.

The competition works to “recognize outstanding work performed by television and online video photojournalists on a quarterly basis.” The entry must have first been published, either online or on TV, for the first time during the contest quarter.

“Placing in these contests is always exciting, especially in our category,” said WRAL-TV Director of New Operations, Sports & Special Projects Leesa Moore. “WRAL is in ‘East General’ which means we are up against just about every station on this side of the country, so there’s a lot of stiff competition!”

DesArmo got second place in the General News category for a story she did with WRAL-TV Reporter Chelsea Donovan on swift water rescue teams preparing for hurricane Ian.

“General News is one of the most competitive categories, so second place is a big deal!” said Moore.

DesArmo also got an Honorable Mention in the Deadline News category (these stories must be shot, edited, and exported in less than four hours) for a story she did with WRAL-TV Reporter Matt Talhelm on pedestrian safety.

Braswell placed third in News Feature – No Time Limit for a story with WRAL-TV Anchor/Reporter Debra Morgan on the Ninja Warrior gym in Durham.
