Organizers of this year’s American Tobacco Duck Race have moved the annual fundraiser from this fall to May 16th, 2009. The Duck Race raises funds for the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle through the sale of plastic ducks, which are entered in a “race” on the Old Bull River running through the middle of the American Tobacco Campus in Durham.
By moving to spring, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle brings on board one of the area’s foremost corporate citizens, SunTrust, and engages two of Durham’s young leaders, SunTrust Durham City President Lisa Yarborough and City Councilman Mike Woodard. With them at the helm, the Duck Race team will be working through the winter months to reach out to a broader group of corporations and individuals to create the biggest, most successful Duck Race ever.
“Moving the race to May, and raising funds during the first half of the year, gives us the cash reserves to keep food moving during next summer’s school break when thousands of children lose their dependable lunchtime meals,” said Jill Staton Bullard, Co-Founder & Executive Director of the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle.
