WRAL Gardens Win City of Raleigh Award for Appearance |

Many Triangle citizens tour the WRAL Gardens each year, and CBC employees enjoy the beautiful surroundings at their workplace. Recently the City of Raleigh honored The WRAL Gardens for their consistently beautiful appearance.
On Tuesday, November 6, 2007, the WRAL Gardens received a Sir Walter Raleigh Award for Community Appearance. The gardens won the Maintained Outstanding Appearance Award, which is presented to projects that are more than five years old and have consistently maintained a high appearance, contributing to Raleigh’s image.
The WRAL Gardens were among 17 award winners. In the 25th year of the awards, the City of Raleigh received a record number of submissions, over 50, from which to choose the recipients.

The awards ceremony took place in the Fletcher Opera Theater in the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Raleigh. CBC’s Corporate Property Management Manager Tim Grissom and Assistant Property Manager Rodney Collier were on hand to accept the award. Both men are the primary team responsible for the upkeep of the 46-year-old gardens.
“I was very honored to win this award for the second time in five years,” said Grissom. “The landscape improvements we have implemented over the past five years are really starting to show and we are happy to see the public using the gardens in greater numbers every year.”

The Sir Walter Raleigh Awards for Community Appearance annual honor projects, groups and individuals that have made a difference in improving the visual and natural environment of the City of Raleigh. To qualify, each must exhibit exemplary design, environmental stewardship, community involvement, preservation of natural features of historic resources, and/or exceeding city standards and statutes. The Raleigh Appearance Commission coordinates the Sir Walter Raleigh awards program.
