Microspace Communications Corporation is well positioned to be a leader in delivery of business television (BTV) applications, according to a new report from noted industry analyst group Northern Sky Research.
Microspace is the leading provider of point-to-multipoint satellite services and operator of the largest business satellite broadcasting network in the world. The company is among only a handful of service providers profiled in Northern Sky Research’s latest market survey and forecast report: “Next Generation Satellite Business Television: Identifying Opportunities and Challenges through Introduction of IP.” Other companies cited in the report include Alcatel Space, Hughes Network Systems and Loral Skynet.
Northern Sky Research estimates the total number of global enterprise Internet Protocol (IP) business television sites will grow from over 81,000 in 2003 to over 432,000 by the end of 2006. This growth in site deployments corresponds to global revenue growth from roughly $95 million in 2003 to over $605 million in 2006, excluding integration and installation fees.
“We’re honored to have our long-standing expertise in delivery of business television and related services validated by a respected organization such as Northern Sky Research,” said Microspace Vice President and General Manager Joe Amor. “Not only did Microspace anticipate this market opportunity, we began to capitalize on it years ago. We agree with Northern Sky Research that there is vibrant growth potential in the industry. We stand ready to provide new clients with the same high-quality, reliable, affordable business television service enjoyed by our current clients – some of the best known companies in business today.”
Christopher Baugh, president of Northern Sky Research, noted that Microspace has a unique service offering compared with many of the other companies surveyed for this report. “Microspace has developed partnerships with many satellite operators to provide its VELOCITY® satellite service. Those partnerships make Microspace’s service ‘satellite agnostic,’ as they call it,” said Baugh. “By partnering with various operators, Microspace ensures greater reliability for its users and enables the company to offer a compelling ‘fixed price’ cost model for its services,” he added.
In remarks made upon announcing the availability of the Northern Sky Research report, Baugh underscored the importance of IP-based technologies for enterprise-wide network communications – technology thoroughly understood by Microspace. “Enterprises have come to realize that video is one of the most powerful tools for communication with employees, suppliers and customers. Acting as a bridge between the TV and IT realms, IP is now the key enabler for the next generation of interactive, flexible enterprise video services,” said Baugh.
