MIX 101.5 Teaches 6th Graders About Radio Remotes |

As part of Capitol Broadcasting Company’s involvement with the Business and Education Alliance in the Wake County Public School System, MIX 101.5 participated in a unique school learning event, a Truck Fair at Lufkin Road Middle School in Apex. Lufkin’s 6th graders got a chance to see trucks from many different companies to give them an idea of jobs that are done outside of a traditional office in a vehicle. MIX 101.5 brought one of its vans to show the students. The event took place on Tuesday, June 4, 2002, between 8:30-11:00am.
Promotion/Engineer Coordinator Brandon Alexander talked to the students, discussing his job as a promotions coordinator and engineer and how the van’s remote equipment works.
He explained, “I allowed the students to use the mic and through the magic of radio allowed them to hear exactly what they would sound like on-air.”
Other participating companies included the Apex Fire Department, the US Army, BellSouth and the Apex EMT Unit.
“Most of the kids were amazed that it had been just a regular van you could buy off the lot, then we converted it into a station vehicle,” said Alexander. “I think by the way things went and what I heard, we might have some future Bill & Sheri’s in the making.”
