Pelicans Celebrate Double Honors |
Myrtle Beach City Council Makes Proclamation
The Myrtle Beach City Council issued a proclamation honoring the Myrtle Beach Pelicans Tuesday, November 14, at 7:00pm at the Law Enforcement Center during the City Council Meeting. Councilman Chuck Martino read the proclamation and presented it to Pelicans General Manager Steve Malliet and Manager Brian Snitker. Approximately 50 people members of the Pelicans front office staff attended the meeting in addition to the council members and the mayor. Two standing ovations were given, one in response to the proclamation after it was read and the second after Maillet and Snitker made their remarks.
Pelicans Celebrate Championships with Community
After winning the Carolina League Championship in each of their first two seasons, the Pelicans decided to throw a party to celebrate. The Back-2-Back Championship Celebration took place at the Overtime Sports Café in North Myrtle Beach from 6:00pm to 9:00pm also on Tuesday, November 14.

The Pelicans were able to collect hundreds of canned goods to donate to the Salvation Army and raised $185 for the Youth Diamond Fund (the team’s primary charitable focus). A large crowd was on hand to win prizes such as Pelicans jerseys, tickets to games, gift certificates to The Pelicans Pro Shop, a night in the luxury suite, etc.
A highlight reel and game footage from the second game of this year’s championship series played on the many TVs throughout this sports bar. Fans indulged in free food, were able to purchase merchandise and get ticket info for the 2001 season. The 1999 and 2000 Mills Cup Championship trophies were on display, and fans got their pictures taken with the trophies.

Brian Snitker, the Manager of the Pelicans championship teams, and Dick Balderson, the Atlanta Braves Director of Player Development, as well as players from both championship teams attended the event. Pelicans Director of Media/Pubic Relations and radio/TV broadcaster Bryan Dolgin emceed the event.
