The Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau presented its most prestigious award to Capitol Broadcasting Company President & CEO Jim Goodmon at its annual luncheon on Thursday, July 27. The Thad Eure, Jr. Memorial Award annually honors an individual who has made a significant contribution to the Wake County hospitality industry during the past fiscal year.
Goodmon received the honor because of his contributions to and leadership of the Special Olympics World Summer Games, the CIAA Basketball Tournament and the Festival Rodin. The Bureau also cited his ongoing generous contributions to the hospitality industry.
The award itself is a 21-inch bronze sculpture of Sir Walter Raleigh, a replica of the statue on the Fayetteville Street Mall downtown, across from the Capitol Building. Goodmon will keep the statuette, sculpted by Italian Bruno Lucchesi, for one year, at which time it will be passed on to the next recipient.
