Each high school principal in North Carolina (426 in all) nominated a junior class member from his/her high school as a nominee. Then a peer review committee in the Governor’s office comprised of 15 community leaders selected the final 100, one student per county. Finally, three of the recipients were selected to win scholarships.

This was the first year in which the ceremony took place in Raleigh; in the past the event has been held at Wake Forest University. Governor Hunt’s office said that, “[David] did an absolutely fabulous job and we were so fortunate to have him as our Master of Ceremonies.” |
