FOX 50 (WRAZ TV) announced on October 15, 2015, that it has launched a new live streaming app, WATCH FOX 50, that gives local viewers access to live programming on FOX 50. Capitol Broadcasting has a long track record of being an innovator in the broadcast industry and the WATCH FOX 50 app is its newest effort.
FOX 50’s parent company Capitol Broadcasting has partnered with TotalCast, an innovative mobile video start-up company, to create the WATCH FOX 50 app. With the launch of the app, FOX 50 becomes the first independently owned TV station to launch its own stand-alone app allowing local viewers to watch national network content on a TV station-specific mobile app.
“As local broadcasters, we want our news, sports and entertainment programming on as many platforms and devices as possible”, said Vice President and General Manager of CBC New Media, James F. Goodmon, Jr. “We are excited about launching this innovative TV experience which gives Raleigh-Durham Pay-TV subscribers unlimited access to FOX 50 wherever they are and whenever they want to watch. When you realize there are more mobile devices than TVs, it is easy to see the value of local broadcasters launching TV Everywhere platforms like the WATCH FOX 50 app.”
At launch, local viewers who receive FOX 50 through AT&T U-verse will be able to watch the FOX 50 line-up including the NFL on FOX, primetime shows like: Empire, Gotham, Bones, Family Guy; syndicated shows like: Family Feud, Wendy Williams, Steve Harvey, Two and a Half Men; as well as WRAL News on FOX 50. The app is free and available for viewers in the FOX 50 viewing area watching on either an Android or Apple tablet.
“We are excited to be able to offer our viewers another way to watch our shows wherever they are,” said FOX 50 Vice President and General Manager Steven D. Hammel. “Capitol Broadcasting has always been a leader in the community in terms of technology that benefits the viewer. Our WATCH FOX 50 app is just another way to deliver our programming to our viewers to fit their lifestyle.”
