WRAL Raleigh Christmas Parade To Feature Hometown Idol Scotty McCreery Parade Takes Over Raleigh on Sat, Nov 19th

Don’t miss the pageantry and excitement of the 2011 WRAL-TV Raleigh Christmas Parade, presented by the Greater Raleigh Merchant’s Association, Saturday, Nov. 19 at 10 a.m.
The 67th annual parade stars “American Idol” winner and Garner native Scotty McCreery as its grand marshal.
Approximately 60,000 people are expected to fill downtown Raleigh to watch the parade and thousands more will tune in on WRAL-TV and WRAL.com.
It’s the largest Christmas parade between Atlanta and Washington, D.C.
Coverage begins at 10 a.m. with WRAL-TV morning news personalities Bill Leslie and Kelcey Carlson, and Brian Shrader serving as street-side reporter.
The parade features more than 110 entries, including bands, fantastic floats, super-sized balloons, marchers, twirlers, entertainers and a special surprise North Pole visitor at the end of the parade.
The parade route starts at Hillsborough and St. Mary’s streets. The parade travels east on Hillsborough Street, turns south at the State Capitol building onto Salisbury Street, then east on Morgan Street and makes its final turn onto Fayetteville Street.
Parking in city-owned parking decks and metered spaced in downtown Raleigh is free of charge for the day.
2011 marks the 38th consecutive year that the event will be broadcast live by WRAL-TV. The parade will also be streamed live on WRAL.com. Replays will be broadcast during the month of December on WRAL.2 and MeTV 50.2, plus a special holiday presentation on WRAL-TV at Noon on Christmas Day.
The parade is presented by the Greater Raleigh Merchants’ Association.
