WRAL-TV To Air Presidential Inauguration in HD |
Now even the President is going hi-tech. WRAL-TV will air the inauguration of the nation’s 43rd President in high-definition, live on Saturday, January 20th at 11:30am-1:00pm. WRAL will carry the digital signal its digital channel 53. WRAL-TV will follow the CBS coverage beginning at 9:00am on analog channel 5.

George W. Bush will be the first President to be inaugurated in HD. |
WRAL-TV will receive the HD feed from the PBS satellite. The signal will originate with the Japanese network NHK for distribution to PBS stations and commercial HD stations in the U.S. Analog viewers will even see a difference with a crisper picture. This will be the first Presidential inauguration ever to be shown in HD.
WRAL-TV will also show the parade following the inaugural oaths of office and speeches, but the parade will not be in HD.
WRAL-TV’s date with HD history continues as the station will convert its newscasts permanently to HD during the 11:00pm newscast after the SuperBowl-Survivor II doubleheader on Sunday, January 28th.
