Bulls To Begin Post-Season Playoffs |
The Bulls finished their 2004 season with a win away against the Charlotte Knights on Monday, September 6, 2004. They capped off the season with a 77-67 record and tied a season-high five homers in that final game.
The Bulls once again will appear in the International League play-offs, beginning postseason play against Buffalo on Wednesday, September 8. The Bulls are making their sixth playoff appearance in seven years and hope to make minor league history by clinching a three-peat, taking their third IL Championship in a row.
To fire up their team for victory, the Durham Bulls have designated the playoff month as Red September and are encouraging fans to wear red to the ballpark. Whether a hat, shirt, shorts-anything red goes!
NC State’s Chad Orvella will join the Bulls for post-season play. |
Red September has also taken on a double meaning as North Carolina State pitcher Chad Orvella has now been assigned to Durham to replace Frank Nunez, who was recalled to Tampa Bay.
Orvella finished up his NC State career as a shortstop in June 2003 and then became a minor league pitcher for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays’ Class A affiliate in Charleston. Only 15 months later the 23-year-old has made a quick rise to the Triple-A Durham Bulls and will help them in their championship bid. In 72.1 innings pitched, Orvella has allowed only 41 hits, 13 earned runs and 9 walks while striking out 115 hitters.
The Bulls open their best of five series against Buffalo with home games on Wednesday and Thursday, September 8 & 9. Both games begin at 7pm. Tickets are available at www.durhambulls.com or by phone at (919) 956-BULL.
