NPR Host Throws First Pitch at Bulls Game
|
NPR Host Scott Simon visited the Durham Bulls on Sunday, August 21st. |
The longtime host of National Public Radio’s “Weekend Edition Saturday” visited the Durham Bulls and American Tobacco campus on August 21, 2005. Scott Simon read from his new novel at ATC, threw out the first pitch at the Bulls game and then spent the evening with supporters of WUNC-fm in the CBC suite. WUNC is presently building studios at ATC that will be operational this fall.
Simon is an inveterate baseball fan. His first book, Home and Away: Memoir of a Fan, was published in the spring of 2000 by Hyperion. It topped the Los Angeles Times nonfiction bestseller list for several weeks, and was cited as one of the best books of the year in the Washington Post and Boston Globe.

Home and Away was followed in 2002 by Jackie Robinson and the Integration of Baseball. His first novel, Pretty Birds, about the Balkans conflict, was released in May 2005 to very positive reviews. He read excerpts from the book at a well attended autograph session in Bay 7 at American Tobacco.
