Harris Teeter Gives Shoppers An Easy Way To Lend A Hand In The Wake of Hurricane Katrina |
Harris Teeter stores and MIX 101.5 WRAL-FM are proud to join the countless volunteers and staff of the American Red Cross who come together to provide relief in the midst of a crisis.
Starting on Thursday, September 1, 2005, Triad area Harris Teeter stores will be selling $1 and $5 Hurricane Relief cards to raise money for those struggling in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. These monetary donations will help the affected communities recover not only from Hurricane Katrina, but also power outages, massive flooding and tornadoes.
The Details:
- Harris Teeter began selling $1 and $5 Hurricane Relief cards on Sept 1st
- Harris Teeter will match up to $25,000 of these donations

Harris Teeter will match up to $25,000 of its customers’ donations. All money raised will go directly to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. This fund will support the affected areas by providing relief supplies, emergency response units, personnel and support for long-term re-construction.
“We at Harris Teeter have received numerous inquiries from our customers asking us to develop away for them to reach the disaster victims,” said Fred Morganthall, President of Harris Teeter. “The Hurricane Relief Fund is an easy way for customers to donate and Harris Teeter wants to take that a step further by matching dollar for dollar up to $25,000, hoping others will be encouraged to donate to the relief efforts,” added Morganthall.
How do customers donate? Hurricane Relief cards will be placed at every register as you check out at your neighborhood food market. Pick up either the $1 or $5 card and tell your cashier you would like to make a donation. The card will be scanned and added to your grocery total. Customers need not worry, they can buy as many cards as they would like. Harris Teeter store managers will hang the purchased Hurricane Relief cards throughout the store so customers can see how their community is making a difference.
As of Thursday morning, Sept 1st, Harris Teeter & its media partners had raised $52,567 across the Triad. Coupled with the $25,000 pledge of the grocery chain, the total is $77,367. |
Harris Teeter is committed to the communities where our customers and associates live and work. We will continue to give them the opportunity to donate to organizations that make a difference in the lives of their families, friends, colleagues and community.
