music-on-lawn.jpgThe legendary Back Porch Music on the Lawn series returns to American Tobacco’s beloved quad, May 14-September 10. The eight free Thursday evening concerts are a joint production of the American Tobacco Campus and NC Public Radio WUNC-FM 91.5.

Signing on as Back Porch Music’s co-sponsors are Frontier Communications, Coastal Federal Credit Union, Triangle Transit, WUNC 91.5, FOX 50 and DPAC.

Feast on hamburgers, corn dogs or a sandwich at one of American Tobacco’s restaurants or food carts. Beer and wine will be available for purchase. Picnics and coolers are welcome — just please don’t bring glass.

The all-star line-up — with each free concert starting at around 6pm — is as follows:

  • May 14 – John Howie Jr & The Rosewood Bluff and TONK
  • May 28 – Scythian
  • June 11 – Jim White vs. The Packway Handle Band
  • June 25 – The Gravy Boys
  • July 30 – Jeff Austin Band
  • Aug. 13 – Music Maker All Star Review featuring Eddie Tigner, Peewee Hayes, Albert White, Nashid Abdul
  • Aug. 27 – American Aquarium
  • Sep. 10 – Chatham County Line

“Back Porch Music on the Lawn has become part of the Triangle’s summertime DNA,” says Michael Goodmon, vice president of real estate, Capitol Broadcasting Company. “We’re excited to be bringing back crowd favorites like Chatham County Line and the Gravy Boys as well as new acts for 2015 like American Aquarium and Scythian.”

“It’s a fun scene out on the lawn with a great summertime vibe,” says David Brower, program director at North Carolina Public Radio WUNC. “We’re very proud to be partners in this series. It’s a natural extension of what happens on the radio every weekend with WUNC’s Back Porch Music.” American Tobacco has much to celebrate. In late 2014, Basan opened its doors in Diamond View III serving world class sushi and later this year the new Aloft hotel will welcome guests to stay on campus while visiting Durham!
