Despite the fact that Tuesday, June 19, 2018, turned out to be one of the hottest days so far this summer, the 4th Annual Sports Radio Open turned out to be the best yet. 99.9 The Fan (WCMC-FM), Buzz Sports Radio (96.5 FM, 99.3FM, 620AM, 99.2HD2) and The Ticket (95.7FM, 1550AM, 99.9HD3) hosted the event presented by The Jim Allen Group at River Ridge Golf Club in Raleigh. The tournament sold out with a field of 120 golfers and brought in $4,000 for The Helene Foundation, which provides immediate support for mother’s fighting cancer to help their families.
“The day was SO hot!!” said 99.9 The Fan Promotions Director Justina Kruser. “We went through over 500 bottles of water keeping everyone hydrated which worked as we didn’t have anyone pass out on us. But even with the hot weather, we had a great turn out and an amazing event.”
Golfers gathered starting at 7:30am with a breakfast of Duck Donuts. A putt off took place at 9am, with a shotgun start following at 9:15am.
The participants golfed 18 holes and then came in for a catered lunch from The Raleigh Beer Garden. The awards presentation took place once everyone got off the course.
The winners were:
- 1st Place Net — James Hair, Nate Markwell, Aaron Wood, Steve Fowler
- 1st Place Gross — David Graham, James Graham, Keith Manning, Ken Manning
“The day goes by so fast and everyone seemed to have a good time,” said Kruser. “I enjoy running this event for several reasons. It gets me outside to enjoy the nice weather (even if it’s 100+ degrees). I’m meeting new people as well seeing some people again that golfed with us last year. And the best part, we are helping raise money for an amazing charity.”
CBC Sports Radio staffers kept the day running smoothly and continue to be enthusiastic about the event.
“I’m already looking forward to our tournament next year and thinking of ways to make it even better!” said Kruser.
