It’s the Bulls and the Yankees for the Championship!

For the second straight year and sixth in eleven seasons, the Durham Bulls are going to play for the Governors’ Cup.
On the strength of six runs batted in by rookie catcher Matt Spring, the Durham Bulls disposed of the Louisville Bats, 9-1 on Sunday afternoon, Sept 7, 2008, at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Durham took the series from the Bats, three games to one.
Making his first start of the year for the Bulls after spending the entire regular season with Double-A Montgomery, Spring was 3-for-4 with a two-run double in the fourth inning, a three-run home run in the sixth inning and an RBI-single in the eighth. Jonny Gomes also went deep for the Bulls with a solo shot in the seventh, and Jon Weber was 4-for-5 with a run scored.
Wade Davis (1-0, 1.50) picked up the win pitching six innings, allowing a run on four hits and three walks while striking out seven. Bobby Livingston (0-1, 9.00) took the loss, going four innings and allowing four runs on six hits and a walk.
The Bulls will face Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Governors’ Cup Championship Round after the Yankees eliminated the Pawtucket Red Sox in their first-round matchup, three games to one. Game One is Tuesday, Sept 9th at PNC Field in Moosic, PA. Tickets for Games 3-5 are available now at www.durhambulls.com.
