Coastal Federal Field To Host Team USA Two Games To Be Played Over The 4th of July |
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans and the City of Myrtle Beach have announced that International baseball will be coming to the Grand Strand as Coastal Federal Field will host the 2003 USA Baseball National Team and the Team Japan All Stars on July 4th.
“It’s an honor for our organization and facility to be chosen to host Team USA during Independence Day Weekend,” said Matt O’Brien, General Manager of the Pelicans. “We are looking forward to putting together a great event that will not only showcase our stadium, but the entire Grand Strand area to baseball’s international fans.”
“Myrtle Beach is pleased to have such talented, young baseball players here for Independence Day,” said Mark McBride, Mayor of Myrtle Beach. “We’ll get to see some great baseball from these national and international players, and they’ll get to experience Myrtle Beach.”
The game will start at 5:05 pm Friday evening and will feature a Team USA Cap Giveaway for the first 2,000 fans. Following the game, fans are invited to head across the street to Broadway at the Beach and enjoy a fantastic fireworks display. The teams will meet again at Coastal Federal Field for a 12:30 pm start on July 5th, as part of a unique day/night doubleheader, as the Pelicans will host the Wilmington Blue Rocks at 7:05 pm later that evening. Tickets will be placed on sale during the Pelican Fest on March 8th, and will then be available at the Pelicans Box Office at 843.918.6000. There will be no increase in ticket prices for either of these games and Season Ticket Holders will be given an opportunity to add them to their 2003 Season Package.
The USA Baseball National Team will be comprised primarily of the nation’s top freshman and sophomore collegiate players, and will represent the United States at the 2003 Pan Am Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in August. Games 1, 2 & 5 of the series will be played at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, North Carolina.
“We are extremely excited to be bringing the 2003 USA Baseball National Team to baseball fans in Myrtle Beach,” said Paul Seiler, USA Baseball Executive Director/CEO. “The Series with Japan has always proven to be a great international event, and we’re excited that our head coach, South Carolina’s Ray Tanner, will be able to showcase the team in his home state.”
The Pelicans 2003 Season begins April 4th on the road and kicks off at home on April 11th at 6:05 pm when they host the Frederick Keys. 2003 Season Ticket Plans, Group Outings and new Mini-Plans are now available by calling the Pelicans Box Office at 843.918.6000.
