Capitolnets Youth Basketball Back in Action |
The “Nets”, as the Capitol Nets Youth Basketball team is referred to, are back once again representing the Raleigh-Durham area during the AAU(Amateur Athletic Union) and YBOA (Youth Basketball of America) tournament in North Carolina and across the Country. AAU is part of the Junior Olympics program, in association with the United States Olympic Committee and Sports Development. Over 4,800 kids played AAU boy’s basketball last year in North Carolina. The Nets began in 1977, but had to take a year break last year due to job transfers by its founders.
The Nets are busy preparing for the 1999 State AAU Tournament, with the ultimate goal of making the AAU Nationals, held in June in Memphis, Tennessee. This year’s qualifying tournament will be held here in Raleigh April 9-11, and the State Championships will be held April 16-18 in Elkin and Mt. Airy, North Carolina. Capitol Networks has been a proud sponsor of the Capitol Nets for the last couple of years and wishes the team the best of luck in the upcoming tournaments.
